Fighting Back Programs

We understand that when you are trying to juggle all of the treatment and demands of fighting cancer, trying to find time to include regular exercise into your routine is the last thing you would be thinking about. Our Fighting Back program provides you with a supportive friendly environment in which to connect with individuals sharing your lived experience while gaining the benefits of being physically active.

Activate Movement and Health & The Shoalhaven Cancer Centre are providing an Exercise programme for patients receiving or have received chemotherapy or immunotherapy in the last six month.

The program has been designed to provide a safe and controlled environment for patients to engage in exercise aimed at improving their treatment outcomes. Participants will be able to attend block sessions at Shoalhaven Cancer care centre (SCCC) to perform their personal programmes, supervised by Exercise Physiologists, at the SCCC on Mondays and Fridays between 10am-2pm

This program is completely free and funded by Activate Health and Movement.

How do I join this program:

Simply call our friendly admin team to organise your initial assessment and we can answer any questions regarding booking dates, class times and cost.

Our program is for all individuals currently receiving treatment for cancer or recovery from treatment.

What does this program include?

  • 1:1 initial assessment to establish baseline measurements of current health and physical capacity as well as setting out your goals for the program.
  • 2 x group exercise sessions per week throughout your treatment
  • 1:1 re-assessment every 8 weeks to evaluate improvements in health and physical capacity, modify treatment plan based on changes in your treatment and re-evaluate your goals
  • 1:1 final assessment on exiting the program to evaluate your progress and provide you with individualised guidance on your plan moving forward.

Fighting Back is facilitated by our Exercise Physiologists who have specialised as Exercise Oncologists to have a deeper knowledge of cancer and its treatments. Their specialist knowledge allows them to individualise your exercise prescription based upon your cancer type, stage and treatment.

Our program provides you with a supportive friendly environment in which to connect with individuals sharing your lived experience while gaining the benefits of being physically active.
